The acknowledgement and treatment for serious mental illness has come a long way. However, we still need significant improvement in our approach to treating serious mental illnesses (SMI) and other brain injuries. I am working with Republican and Democratic colleagues to support HB23-1130, which is designed to limit “step therapy” for those with SMI.

Mental health concerns deserve the same urgency, compassion, and accessibility as physical injuries. Early evaluation and intervention can prevent long-term consequences, reduce stigma, and help families feel supported rather than overwhelmed.
At Spokane Pediatric Urgent Care https://www.google.com/maps/place/?cid=2265631384111367508, we see firsthand how closely physical and mental health are connected. Families often come to urgent care not just for injuries or illness, but because they don’t know where else to turn when their child is struggling. Pediatric-focused urgent care plays an important role in recognizing concerns early, guiding families to appropriate resources, and treating the whole child not just isolated symptoms.
