The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions is scheduled to meet soon to discuss pharmacy benefit managers, and I hope members of that committee, particularly Colorado’s Sen. Hickenlooper, advocate for necessary reforms to this industry.
Pharmacy benefit managers say they are in the business of helping patients, but rarely do their practices align with that claim. Instead, they use their monopoly over the prescription marketplace to withhold rebates, decide where patients can pick up prescriptions, and in serious cases — deny access to care.
